Today’s Easter Monday Creative Writing Prompt:
Travel broadens the mind.
But what happens when we can’t leave home?
Today I’d like you to have a go at writing a travel article. Recall somewhere you’ve been that you’d like to recommend to others. Or somewhere awful you’d like to warn them against. You could write an article with an exotic destination in mind. Or not.
I know we’re in lock-down right now and having our wings clipped is rather limiting. But we’re writers, aren’t we? We have imagination. Perhaps you can write about your back yard as a holiday destination? Invite your readers in to join you. Use the senses to tell us about what this place smells like, what sounds are there, what you can see.
This is a chance to be surreal, or to introduce the supernatural into your writing. Perhaps write from a bug’s eye point of view. Or try a time-slip story of what your place was like 50 years ago.
Can’t think of how you can write about travel while you are stuck at home? Like I said, you can fantasise about somewhere, or recall a past place. Or failing all that, Google a location. Watch a video and pretend you’re there now – be grateful your writer’s mind can take you places. Try 400 words of escapism.
Back to Basics – if you need to catch up, it started here (but we’re now over half way through, so there’s some catching up to do).
I intend posting prompts here each day (until May Day) at 5pm – alive at five (Dublin time).
