Today’s prompt is to write a book review.
Any book you’ve enjoyed or hated, even one you’ve no strong opinion on. You could choose a book you’d like to recommend, perhaps one of your long-time favourites. Or something you’ve read recently. Or a tome you wouldn’t suggest anyone else wastes their time on.
You could just pull down a random book from your shelf (one you’ve read, obviously) and write about that.
You can include your opinions on writing style, presentation, content, pace, plot, length, although it doesn’t have to be a novel. It could be an autobiography, an instruction manual, a children’s book.
Comment on the cover, the introduction and/or acknowledgements. Does the cover blurb on the back (or inside flyleaf) inform or mislead, do it justice? Does the book fit a genre? How well? Would you read a sequel? Does it deserve one?
Write the sort of book review you’d like to read, perhaps in the style of one of the daily papers or a general interest magazine.
To make this pithy and immediate, try limiting yourself to 450 words and because this is opinion, you are writing in the first person (‘I’ and ‘me’).
Back to Basics – if you need to catch up, it all started here.
I intend posting prompts here each day (until May Day) at 5pm – alive at five (Dublin time).
